My name is Povilas Reigis and I’m studio potter from Lithuania.
It all began after one party in 2018. I dreamed that I am a potter. I woke up with a hungover, but in my mind there was only one question - why I am not a potter yet?? The same day I bought my very first bag of clay. I put it on my kitchen table and this is how my journey as a ceramicist began.
Basically, I'm self-made ceramic artist or you can call me Youtube "graduated" student. It seems like I saw all Youtube videos about pottery. From all different ceramics techniques, wheel throwing is my favorite one. It is relaxing, meditative, but also it teaches me patience.
While I am throwing, shape and function come first, it is like painting in the space. It is very satisfying to observe how quickly clay can transform from mud to mug.
During the years of experimenting and learning the material (clay), I realized that stoneware is a clay that I love the most. Stoneware delivers exactly what I want and it unfolds best in my hands.
Glaze is probably the main Jewel to the crown when it comes to ceramic artwork. It connects every single element together. It's hard to find a perfect glaze, but when I find it, I can not be more happier. One thing is for sure - I only use high fire glazes.
From beginning, my main focus is tableware. There is no better feeling, than eating from handmade dishes. It is heartwarming, satisfying to touch and it just looks better.
